Just like all other types of creative writing, blog writing requires originality. Some days are more difficult than others to come up with innovative ideas, but everyone suffers from writer’s block from time to time. Throughout this three-part series we will explore ways to find inspiration when creating blog posts. First, we will discuss finding ideas through social media.
Use trending topics on social media to inspire you. What are your followers and people in your industry tweeting about? What are they posting and sharing on Facebook? Many times this requires being up to date on pop culture and the news. People are always posting news they find relevant on their social media sites. Current events that are important to your followers and relate to something in your industry, are great ideas for new posts.
It is also important to educate yourself on topics your competitors are posting about. Obviously you cannot steal their ideas, but as you read more about the topic you will inevitably think of different ideas on how to cover the subject that your audience will find interesting.
You can also use your own social media site to see which posts were shared most by followers. Also, reading comments from your your followers on your old posts could spark an idea. Another way to find some inspiration using social media is to post a status or tweet asking your followers what information they would like to read about. A post like this will let your followers know that you care what they think and could give you some really great ideas.
Social media is a great resource for finding inspiration, and you can use it to your advantage. Next week we will discuss the advantage of using major brands and case studies in your blog posts.
